Dick spent four years as trial attorney in the tax division of the Oregon Department of Justice followed by 47 years at a private law practice in Portland. He graduated from Willamette University College of Law and holds a masters in law in taxation from New York University School of Law. His areas of practice are taxation, probate, real estate law, and foreclosure litigation. He has been a real estate investor since 1973.
